Small trees and ornamental plants were planted in the areas next to the Museum of Natural History, at Cyprian Agonists & Peace, Cyprian Agonists & Kairi and the Bazdeki park in Neo Maroussi, as part of the environmental actions of the Municipality of Maroussi for the development and enhancement of urban greenery, on Sunday 11 June 2023.
The Mayor of Maroussi Theodoros Abatzoglou participated in the action, in the presence of the Deputy Mayor of Environment and Quality of Life Yannis Ioannidis, who is responsible for the initiative. The Mayor received the warm thanks of the residents for the landscaping of their area, who together with young friends and members of the Cultural & Recreational Association “Neo Marousi”, planted, watered and cared for the new plants. The action was supported by young people from Finland, Lithuania, Belgium and Ukraine who participate in the Erasmus programme.
Mr. Th. Abatzoglou thanked the participants for their environmental sensitivity and their willingness to volunteer and expressed the assurance that similar actions will continue in all the neighbourhoods of the city.
Furthermore, the Mayor toured a green area in Neo Maroussi that had recently been planted, while he had the opportunity to be guided by the residents to an old well in Bastdeki Street, which according to the residents carries a water pumping mechanism of the 1930s, with the first thoughts being about its utilization both culturally and for the irrigation needs of the green areas of the area.
The action was also attended by the President of the Municipal Council Dimitris Smyrnis, the President of Okoipada Petros Koniaris and
from the side of the Cultural & Recreational Association “Neo Marousi” the President Dimitris Stamelos, the Vice President Kyriakos Makaronidis, the Secretary Vassilis Ladonikolas and member Athina Lakardi, while the President of the Educational – Cultural Association of Paradisos Maroussi Andreas Kalligas and the former President Dimitris Klitorakis were also present.
Finally, Ioanna Amaxilati, Eftichia Parasiri and Maria Simeonidou were also present at the tree planting.
